Sergio Olivar graduated from the Escuela Libre de Derecho and was admitted to the practice of law in 1998.
He obtained his Master's Degree in Corporate Law with honors in 2005. He joined Noriega y Escobedo in 2002 and heads the Infrastructure Department. He has designed and put into operation several PPPs, including PPSs and BOTs in different sectors, among which those for highways, toll-roads and aqueducts stand out. He has also structured diverse joint-investment projects for both the tourist resort and housing sectors, in the latter instance by means of comprehensive sustainable urban development projects (DUIS).
He has acted as counsel to one of the Mexican development Banks, the Banco Nacional de Obras y Servicios Públicos S.N.C. (Banobras) and the National Infrastructure Fund Trust, Fondo Nacional de Infraestructura (FNI), providing advice in the design, structuring and negotiation of various financing schemes for the public and private sectors for infrastructure development of the country.
His areas of practice include corporate, foreign investment and public international law, and the counseling he has provided to various companies in corporate matters, negotiation of agreements, mergers and acquisition and negotiation with various governmental agencies and entities is prominent.
From 1996 to 2002 he held various posts in the public sector, such as Head Counsel of the Liaison Department with the United Nations of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he was in charged of negotiating several international treaties, and is currently a professor of commercial law at the Universidad Panamericana.
He has been invited as guest lecturer by several Universities, Associations and Governmental entities in Mexico and the United States. He is currently professor of commercial law at the Universidad Panamericana.
